GENERAL

Electric melting boosting systems are already effectively installed since 1970 in the glass industry. HORN offers with its boosting systems different boosting applications in order to achieve different results during glass melting process. The individual electric boosting systems are therefore tailor-made for each furnace respective required influence on the melting process. Therefore each supplied boosting system is an unique system and contributes to operate the melting tank efficient and flexible.

Generally the input of additional electric energy is designed for a percentage of up to 20 % of the melting output. For economical reasons a percentage of approx.10 % is regarded as appropriate. However, this mainly depends on the required effect of electric energy on the melting process.

These effects are:

Increased melting output of the aggregate
Improved glass quality
More efficient utilization of fossil energy sources   
More stable and flexible production
Accelerated re-melting processes in case of colour changes
Faster modification of product range according to customers’ requests

Each Boosting system supplied by HORN is a complete stand-alone system ready for operation and mainly consists of:

Electrodes and in-house made electrode holders along with accessories, e.g. piping and cables
Transformer units, e.g. three-phase oil cooled aggregates
Fully automatic instrumentation and control system
Cooling water equipment

When designing the boosting system HORN applies the latest technical aids as well as its comprehensive experience of boosting system installations. The effect of the boosting system can be simulated via modern software on computers before starting with the detailed planning and manufacturing of the equipment.
